Report: Chelsea interested in Lyon midfielder Tolisso, also on Arsenal’s radar

Corentin Tolisso

According to recent reports, Antonio Conte is mulling over a possible move for Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso this summer.

The talented youngster, 22, has enjoyed his best season in Ligue 1 as Lyon secured a fourth-placed finish.

Respectable, given their inconsistency this past campaign, it has become increasingly clear that their key players could angle for moves away in the upcoming transfer window as Alexandre Lacazette has already been linked with a number of big-money moves.

Tolisso would be guaranteed Champions League football under Conte’s management in west London, an attractive proposal in comparison to Arsenal given their shortcomings last season.

However, many have suggested it’s unlikely that he would be a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge, instead more of a squad player than someone who gets consistent minutes to showcase his ability.

Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, also of France, has also been linked with a move to Chelsea as a potential partner for N’Golo Kante in holding midfield. French newspaper L’Equipe have suggested the club’s interest in him has cooled, whilst Lyon themselves are keen to strengthen by signing Kurt Zouma and Bertrand Traore, the latter of which excelled with Ajax this past term.

It’s possible that Zouma will be made available for a season-long loan, having only featured infrequently with the Blues. Traore’s long-term future remains to be seen, especially given all the talk about them signing more experienced forwards in his position.

Currently on international duty with France, it’s unlikely that Tolisso’s future will be resolved for another few weeks at the earliest.

If it does come down to a straight decision between the two London sides, he will have to think about where he’d earn more minutes as opposed to being left regularly on the substitutes’ bench, which would be a waste of his ever-improving ability.
