David Silva out for two to three weeks with ankle injury

Just a day after news that Sergio Agüero has been sidelined for at least a month, City’s midfield maestro is also now injured – as a result of a hefty tackle on international duty with Spain.

It goes from bad to worse for Manchester City supporters – just 24 hours after news broke about Sergio Agüero‘s injury, they’ve suffered another blow to another important player within the first-team.This time, it’s David Silva. The midfield maestro was forced off within fifteen minutes of the first-half during Spain‘s 4-0 win over Luxembourg, after a hefty sliding challenge by Lars Gerson from behind caught his legs in an awkward position.

Silva – just another injury for City to worry about

The experienced creative midfielder stayed down after the tackle itself, and it became soon apparent that he was unable to continue – despite initially attempting to hobble off and run the effects of the tackle off in due course. After receiving treatment on the sidelines, he came back into the fray, but a few minutes later, went down again, and the substitution was made shortly afterwards.

Injury too painful to carry on – out for two/three weeks

Manchester United‘s Juan Mata replaced him, and reports have recently suggested that Silva’s injury will rule him out of action for between two and three weeks. Unsurprisingly, this news has been met by plenty of frustration and disappointment from sky Blues‘ fans across the world.

The dynamic duo of Silva and Agüero in attack has been cruelly stripped away from them, just as the side were starting to grab momentum – having lost three of their last five competition fixtures in all competitions.

Spain’s boss, Vicente del Bosque, said the following in the aftermath of their convincing victory: “I do not know the extent of [Silva’s] injuries – our doctors will inform you [the public] when they know something. We know nothing for now.”

Afterwards though, developments were confirmed – that Silva had suffered a “bad sprain of the internal lateral ligament of the right ankle”, meaning he’d be out for at least a fortnight, according to Spanish media outlet AS.

Games that Silva will miss:

  • Bournemouth (h) – next Saturday
  • Champions League: Sevilla (h) – 21 October
  • Manchester Derby: United (a) – 25 October

Games that he could also miss, during his recovery:

  • League Cup: Palace (h) – 28 October
  • Norwich (h) – 31 October
  • Champions League: Sevilla (a) – 3 November
