On the eve of the international break, Arsenal’s global stars are about to join up with their teammates and it couldn’t come at a worse time for the Gunners.
Having beaten Manchester United with a comprehensive 3-0 victory on Sunday, manager Arsène Wenger has revealed today’s Man of the Match has a slight injury problem.
Not too worrying, but even so, Alexis Sánchez has a groin problem. After the match, the Frenchman confirmed the 26-year-old Chilean could possibly aggravate the issue on break in South America.
As quoted by the Islington Gazette, Wenger said the forward “has a little groin problem”, and given the unfortunate timing, “he goes to Chile now.”
After being tackled late on in the dying stages of the first-half, Sánchez was seen clutching his thigh area, and initially went down to ground. Bastian Schweinsteiger’s late challenge went unpunished by referee Anthony Taylor – but Alexis carried on in the second 45, before being replaced with ten minutes to play in place of Kieran Gibbs.
“You cannot stop him from going and he loves so much to play for his country. They play against Brazil and Peru and the game against Brazil of course he will not want to miss. I hope he will come back in good shape.”
Wenger will be understandably hoping that Alexis, among others, return to first-team training with no fresh injury concerns ahead of an important run of fixtures.
All of their next six Premier League fixtures are winnable games, and they need to secure maximum points if they are to solidify their title charge after a period of uncertainty thus far. Not to mention, their two consecutive matches against Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich – who dismantled Borussia Dortmund earlier this afternoon, ending a 14-game unbeaten run in the process.
